Blogging is an essential part of your platform. It helps you build an audience and connect with them, be seen as an expert and establish your credibility, test ideas and get feedback, create content that can be repurposed and gain visibility on the web, and above all, promote your books, brand, services, and other products.
So lets end 2011 with a bang by blogging consistently and meaningfully for the last 100 days of the year!
By "consistently" I mean blogging at least twice a week, although you can aim your goal higher if that feels right to you. Make your goal realistic. Something that stretches and challenges you, yet fits into your already busy schedule.
By "meaningfully" I mean in a way that helps your audience achieve their goals, whether their goal is to learn something new, accomplish something specific, or be entertained with funny or thought provoking posts.
Why S.H.I.N.E. Online? Because your blog is your home base, it's where people get to know you. In creating an online presence, your blog is your best opportunity to shine online! Every single blog post gives you another opportunity to S.H.I.N.E. To:
I started the first S.H.I.N.E. Online Blog Challenge on 1-11-11, and it ran for 111 days. Although I created the challenge, I didn't complete it. Life intervened, which can happen sometimes. Although my roommate's cancer was improving, she took a sudden turn for the worse and died a month into the challenge.
So I've decided to get the challenge rolling, again, as we enter the last 100 days of 2011, because I want to complete the challenge, this time. I'm ready, and raring to go. Are you?
In the last two months I've been taking my blogging seriously, again, which started because of my Alexa ranking (which ranks websites on the Internet). An online service I wanted to use only takes people with Alexa Rankings under 2 million (the lower your ranking, the better). At the time, my Alexa Ranking was 2.9 million. It was just the push I needed to get blogging, again.
In the last two months, I've managed to get my Alexa ranking down to...
I've passed by more than 2 million other websites and my numbers are still falling, since your Alexa ranking is based on your traffic for the last 3 months, and I've only been sending traffic for the last 2 months.
Here are my page view stats for the last 30 days:
On my lowest day, I had 63 page views, and on my higest, 364. I've learned a lot in the last two months about how to get people to come to my blog. Although I have a huge twitter following, which helps immensely, only a tiny fraction of them see any given tweet, and there's an art to getting people from twitter to your blog. I'll be sharing what I've learned (and am continuing to learn), as we progress through the challenge.
The biggest surprise of the last two months is how important paper.li has become to my blogging. Paper.li is a content aggregator that uses links from people's tweets on twitter to create a daily newspaper on any subject that you choose. One of my daily papers is Join the eBook Revolution, and it's revolutionized my blogging.
The paper inspired my weekly "Top Ten eBook Aritcles for Authors This Week" blog posts, as well as my shorter ebook news reports. As we go along, I'll share the ins and outs of how to best use paper.li to get readers to your blog.
